A Quieter Way to Keep Watch

Some of the most effective police work happens quietly.

Paid for in full by the Edina First Responders Fund, the Edina Police Department’s Bicycle Patrol gives uniformed officers a flexible way to move through neighborhoods, parks and business areas, primarily at night.

Bicycles allow officers to patrol areas that may be difficult to access by squad car. They can also move in near silence, helping officers remain aware of what is happening around them without drawing attention.

The patrol has had significant success making arrests for offenses including illegal narcotics use and distribution, property damage, theft, underage drinking and traffic violations.

So, if a bicyclist quietly passes your home late at night, it may very well be an Edina police officer helping keep watch over the neighborhood.
